Tax Reform-2017: Creating Opportunities for Charity

February 28, 2019

David R. Toups, JD, MBA, CFA, CFP, CTFA
Corporate Vice President, The Nautilus Group

The Nautilus Group’s David R. Toups will discuss the “cutting edge” of charitable planning opportunities for professional gift officers and wealth advisors who actively include strategic philanthropy in their practice.

David Toups joined The Nautilus Group in 2016 as a member of the case development team. As a case consultant, David provides analysis and explanation of multi-faceted estate, trust, and business plans.

Prior to joining Nautilus, David spent more than 14 years in the private practice of law focused in estate, trust, and business planning and litigation. He also routinely advised and counseled individuals and financial service firms and professionals regarding complex financial planning and litigation matters. Prior to founding his own law firm, he practiced law with several leading law firms in Houston and Dallas with a primary emphasis in estate, trust, probate, and business planning and litigation.

Before practicing law, David consulted on and managed substantial estate, trust, and retirement portfolios for several national corporate fiduciaries as a regional investment portfolio manager. During his career, David has also been a registered investment advisor, a financial consultant, and served as a U.S. Marine.

David received his undergraduate degree in business from Texas A&M University, and received his MBA – with an emphasis in finance – from Sam Houston State University, where he was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. David graduated with honors from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, and was inducted into the Order of the Lytae legal honor society. While at South Texas, David was selected by and served in legal internship positions at both the Texas First Court of Appeals and the First Probate Court of Harris County, Texas.

David holds bar memberships with the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Southern Districts of Texas; and the Texas Supreme Court.

David has been married for more than 26 years and is the father of a son and a daughter.
